With Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner first fight in two years, he looked sluggish and faded against Jovanie Santiago who was unknown and unproven previous to the fight. Santiago was consistent with his aggression and effective body punching throughout the fight.
Judges scorecards: Judges Tom Carusone (116-111), Glenn Feldman (115-112) and Peter Hary (117-110)
In the post fight press conference, Broner said on his performance: “I felt good. I felt like I lost probably three rounds. But you know, other than that I know I beat him easy off the jab and, you know, I was countering him pretty good. And I was doing my thing. I was having fun.. I had to use my jab and get him to open up and that’s when I was able to counter punch.”
Santiago said post fight: “No, the decision doesn’t surprise me. Broner did a nice job in there. The decision could have gone both ways. He fought a great fight. We were in it to win this fight, and he got the decision.”
