Marc Ramsay, the head coach for WBC, IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev does not believe that a fight with Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez will ever take place.
Canelo moved up to light heavyweight in Novemebr 2019 to challenge Sergey Kovalev for his WBO Light Heavyweight Title and won by a 11th round knockout. Canelo later vacated the title and is expected to complete next at Super-Middleweight or Middleweight.
It was rumoured that Canelo and his team were interested in facing Beterbiev but Marc Ramsay was confident that the fight would never occur.
“It won’t ever happen, I don’t believe he will fight my guy. Fighting Kovalev and fighting Beterbiev are two different stories.” Ramsay told Sky Sports.
Ramsay went onto add that Canelo is only interested in collecting titles and doesn’t believe he wants to challenge the other champions in the Light Heavyweight division.
“It was a challenge because Kovalev was the world champion. Today he (Canelo) doesn’t speak about Kovalev or Bivol, he just wants the titles.”
