Artur Beterbiev Knocks Out Adam Deines To Retain WBC & IBF Light-Heavyweight Titles
Artur Beterbiev stopped Germany’s Adam Deines in the tenth round via a TKO to retain WBC & IBF light-heavyweight titles. Beterbiev didn’t look his best against a brave & tough Deines, but this was his first fight back after being out of the ring for 18 months out.
Deines was able to rise back to his feet and beat the referee’s count after the heavy knock down but his corner raised the towel to signal for the referee to end the fight. Deines didn’t appear happy with the decision but it looked like the correct decision.
The Chechen Russian moves to 16-0 with 16 KOs and will hopefully have unification fights later this year. The other light-heavyweight champions are Dimtry Bivol (WBA) and the WBO title is currently vacant with Joe Smith Jr (26-3 21 KO’s) and Maxim Vlasov scheduled to contest for the title on April 10th.
In the aftermath of the fight, pundit and former pound-4-pound boxing champion Andre Ward shared his thought on a potential Beterbiev vs Canelo bout, “it is a dangerous fight for Canelo. I don’t know if Canelo wants to take that risk.”
