Bob Arum Explains Why His Man Kubrat Pulev Beats Anthony Joshua, Claims the Brit Is ‘Chinny’
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who represents both Tyson Fury and Kubrat Pulev, recently mocked Anthony Joshua in a recent interview by claiming the British IBF, WBA and WBO world heavyweight champion is ‘Chinny’.
Joshua and Pulev were due to fight back in October 2017 with the venue being the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The official press conference took place on 11th September 2017 and the following day, it was reported that 70,000 tickets were sold, which made it one of the fastest selling event. 12 days before the scheduled event, Pulev pulled out of the fight due to a hand injury and Carols Takam was the replacement opponent for Joshua.
Antony Joshua went onto defeat Takam and later Joseph Parker to unify his IBF and WBA belts with Parker’s WBO title. Joshua defended his world titles against Povetkin and then fought Andy Ruiz Jr twice during two famous battles in Madison Square Garden and Saudi Arabia. Pulev kept his IBF number mandatory position by beating three opponents, one being Tyson Fury’s cousin Hughie Fury.
On 2 March 2020, it was officially announced that Joshua and Pulev would fight at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the 20th June 2020 but was later postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. A new date for the fight is still to be announced.
During a recent interview with Talksport, Bob Arum didn’t hold back on his thought about Joshua’s punch resistance and stated: “Joshua has a chinny chin chin. If he got knocked out by Andy Ruiz, who can’t punch! Look at Andy’s record; he fought all of his fights with us. Joshua has a fight before the end of the year with my guy Kubrat Pulev, a very tough Bulgarian”
