Boxing Rignside Judges Should Be Made Accountable For Their Scoring Of Fights
💰 Corrupt or Incompetent ringside judges has long been a problem in boxing but there never seems to be any action or investigation about such outrageous episodes.
💭 Boxing fights can be a very subjective sport in regards to which boxer has won a bout but it some cases, like #TaylorCatterall last night, there is a clear problem of corruption or incompetence when it comes to the judges scorecards.
🗣 There was almost universal agreement that Jack Catterall beat Josh Taylor over a 12 round fight but two judges disagreed and scored the fight in favour of Josh Taylor – Taylor, who appeared to lose the majority of the rounds as well as being dropped in one round and had one point deducted in another round.
🗣 Post-fight, Ben Shalom the Boxxer CEO said on Skysports: “I’m actually embarrassed because I’m promoting this event. That’s heartbreaking for Jack. I’m embarrassed… If there’s not an inquest, it’s gonna harm the sport. I’m not just embarrassed, I’m really angry.”
⚖️ I genuinely hope there is an open inquest and not something done behind closed doors, where judges are made fully accountable for their actions.
💰 Boxing has a bad reputation of dirty politics and corruption, both in the amateur and professionals ranks – and it’s time this is addressed and corrected because hard work & dreams are being crushed.
