Currently the super-middleweight division isn’t very strong, it is traditionally a strong division but without Canelo, there aren’t many elite boxers. You have of course Caleb Plant and David Benavidez but other than that, there aren’t many boxers of high calibre. The future of Billy Joe Saunders is uncertain and it sounds like he’s lost the passion for the sport.
There are promising talents such as Vladimir Shishkin, Zach Parker, Carlos Gongora, Pavel Silyuagin, Evgenuy Shvedenko and Edgar Berlanga but none are proven thus far and are all working their way through the ranks towards a world title shot in the near or distant future.
Equally, we don’t know the future of Canelo and will he return to the super-middleweight division and how long will he keep hold of the world titles. The IBF and WBO are usually quite strict with their mandatory challengers and will strip champions if they do not fight their mandatories but the WBC and WBA, are not so strict and are often perceived as being easily influenced by promoters and finances if it suits them to keep a boxer a champion with their organisation…. With all the above stated, the odds favour Caleb Plant to become a world champion once again
