Eddie Hearn To Insist On One British Judge For Canelo vs Billy Joe Saunders
Canelo Alvarez who is due to face Billy Joe Saunders on May 8th for their WBC, WBA, WBO and Ring Magazine Super-Middleweight world titles, is the big favourite at the bookies and with boxing fans to win the fight.
Many neutral boxing fans may feel that Saunders will need to secure a knockout in order to win on foreign soil against the pound-for-pound superstar of boxing.
There are notable occasions whereby fans have questioned the judges’ scorecard of Canelo fights, those being against Gennady Golovkin and Floyd Mayweather. Many feel Golovkin won the first fight against Canelo but this was scored as a draw and one judge scored his fight against Floyd Mayweather as a draw, in what was a one sided encounter.
Eddie Hearn promotes both Canelo and Billy Joe Saunders, and with both men being champions, he believes Saunders has a right to request that one judge of their fight is British.
‘’I think we need a neutral panel, I think we need a British judge on there. I think we need an American judge on there. But I don’t know. Look, the British judging hasn’t been fantastic lately.” Eddie Hearn told BoxingScene

“And also, when (Canelo) the biggest star like that, sometimes you get the benefit of the doubt with the crowd noise in close situations. So, we’ll see. It’s gonna be Las Vegas or Dallas, probably, and we’ll decide within the next week, maybe, two weeks max.”
“We will push for a British judge. That’s the way it should be because it’s champion versus champion. It’s not just, you know, it’s all Canelo Alvarez. This is a world champion fighting a world champion. So, that’s something that we will be insistent on”
