Gennadiy Golovkin will be seeking to make boxing history with a 21st defence for his IBF middleweight title on December 18th against Kamil Szeremeta.
Golovkin recently defeated Sergiy Derevyanchenko in October 2019 to win to the IBF title and whilst it’s considered a defence, it was not a consecutive defence. Golovkin is well known for his ‘Big Drama Show’ fight statements but his upcoming fight against Szeremeta fails to stir the interests of both hardcore and casual boxing fans.
Boxing fans are more interested in a Canelo rematch or fights against the likes of Jermall Charlo, Demetrius Andrade, Billy Joe Saunders and Chris Eubank Jr.
Should Golovkin defeat Szeremeta, both fans and the broadcaster DAZN will be expecting stiffer competition in his next fight. Golovkin brings knockout power entertainment to the boxing ring but needs a good dance partner to wet the appetite of boxing fans.
