Current WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo took to social media recently to vent his frustrations at securing big fights and them called out Golovkin. Charlo currently has a undefeated record of 31 wins with 22 ko’s and his last fight was a unanimous points decision win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko in September 2020.
‘Where are the real champions at? Who do you want to see me fight next? What makes the most sense? I’m thinking Eubank or somebody, make sense because I’m not 168 (super-middleweight)’ Charlo said via his social media
I’m actually challenging their sh*t, who is going to go get that bag? I’ll fight GGG’
Charlo then ruled out the Eubank Jr and made reference to a past an interaction with Eubank Sr, ‘ That’s why I don’t want to fight Eubank because you already doubt that fight. They know I’m bigger than him. I remember when Eubank’s daddy pulled up on me and tried to size me up’
‘His daddy was shivering. I was telling him, what are you looking at?
A fight with Golovkin would set up a middleweight unification bout as Charlo is the WBC champion and GGG the IBF champion. Whilst Charlo rules out the Eubank Jr fight, this would be a highly entertaining bout as Eubank Jr always bring heart and grit to any contest he’s engaged in within the squared circle.
