John Ryder causes an upset at the Alexandra Place in London with split decision victory over two time world champion Daniel Jacobs. The victory puts the Brit in the frame for a big world title fight in 2022 or a pay day fight against a big name in boxing.
Daniel Jacobs was the favorite leading into the fight and he appeared to be winning the bout during the early rounds but Ryder rallied well and fought his way back into the contest. Ryder appeared to hurt Jacobs with punches with his inside work and the American seemed to tired as the Brit got stronger during the latter rounds.
The crowd roared Ryder on but Jacobs stuck in there, the fight appeared to be a close one to call as the championship rounds drew to a close. At the end of the fight, the shock verdict was announced and the judge’s scorecards were: 115-113 twice for Ryder and 115-113 for Jacobs.
On the undercard, Johnny Fisher defeated Gabriel Enguema over 6 rounds with a points victory. Middleweights Felix Cash and Magomed Madiev entertained viewers with a 12 round fight that saw Cash hit the canvas twice and he was deducted a point in the last round. Cash grabbed a unanimous decision but many online and onlookers believed that the Russian Madiev won the fight and was robbed of victory.
Ellie Scotney won a points decision over 10 rounds, Austin Williams scored a sixth round TKO win, Hopey Price stopped his opponent inside 4 rounds and Shiloh Defreitas opened with the fight card with a points decision victory.
