Jose Zepeda retained his WBC silver super-lightweight title with an emphatic first-round knockout win over Josue Vargas.
Zepeda dropped Vargas heavy with a huge overhand left inside the first round. Vargas was unsteady on his feet as he rose back up to his feet to take a count from the referee. As the fight restarted, Zepeda battered Vargas into the corner and landed heavy clean shots which promoted the referee to quickly ended the fight.
When asked in the post fight interview, Jose Zepeda made it clear he wants world titles fights next and a Josh Taylor bout: “Yes, 100 percent. I already fought his last opponent Jose Ramirez. It would be a good fight but I’m ready for that”
“I’m 32 and in my prime, I want the WBC title. I want all the belts. I’m ready for it. I showed that.”
