“Tyson Fury is the lineal heavyweight champion of the world, and I believe that he’s the best heavyweight in the world” – Max Kellerman said on his show ‘Max on Boxing’
“There is a legitimate dispute to his throne. How about a fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua?”
Some argue that Tyson Fury is not the lineal heavyweight champion and nor was Wladimir Klitschko. Lennox Lewis was the last true Lineal Champion. If Klitschko was never undisputed champion, why does Tyson Fury make such a claim… This is what some argue
In combat sports, by definition, a lineal title is held initially by an undisputed champion and subsequently by a fighter who defeats the reigning champion in a bout. In boxing, the lineal championship dates back to 1892 and the days of John L Sullivan and the title is carried on every time the lineal champ is beaten.
Others argue that Tyson Fury is the lineal heavyweight champion, because technically when Fury defeated Wladimir Klitschko he won the WBO, WBA, IBF & IBO world titles. And the Gypsy King of course, has not been beaten. Tyson became lineal champion when he defeated the then current holder of various heavyweight world titles, Wladimir Klitshcko. The only way to become the lineal champion is defeat the previous title holder.
What’s your thoughts..??, is Tyson Fury by definition the lineal heavyweight champion
