Ryan Garcia Calls For Golden Boy To Release Him From Contract
Ryan Garcia is reportedly unhappy with the fight purses that he is being offered by promotional company Golden Boy and has called for him to be released from his contract.
Golden Boy offered Ryan fights for July 4th against either Hector Tanajara, Mercito Gesta or Javier Fotuna. According to Mike Coppinger via his twitter account, Ryan agreed to a fight with WBA super featherweight champion Fortuna and the purses on offered were between £250,000 to £350,000 – but the bout never materialised. When this fight purse is compared to fellow American prospect Shakur Stevenson, who recently received a payday of around £700,000 for this fight against Felix Caraballo, it’s fair to understand Ryan’s frustrations.
In a recent interview with TheAthlectic.com, Ryan expressed his discontentment with Golden Boy and Oscar De Lay Hoya, and challenged them to release him if they don’t believe in his abilities or in other words, pay him accordingly.
Ryan stated ‘’if they (GoldenBoy) don’t think I’m the next world champion, and if they don’t think I’m the next big fighter in the world, prove it, let me go. Just free release right now’’
