“We’re the first two Latinos to make it happen. Listen, I called Eddy Reynoso. I really didn’t believe they were going to do it because this is Canelo’s night and I respect that” Teofimo Lopez Sr told AKHiTV
“When I called him up, I said, ‘What do you think, Eddy if we bring the belts together?‘ Then he said, ‘That s*** is a good idea. Let’s make it happen”
“They got all the belts right now and we’re going to show them right now at the press conference. Two undisputed champions in different weight divisions because it’s two Latinos doing it,”
“Two Latinos are doing it and we did it first and we motivate even the greats. My son is not at that level yet. I don’t want to talk like that, but we’re getting there”
I’m not sure what to think about this… does Lopez senior genuinely believe his son is a undisputed champion or is he trying to convince boxing fans that is the case
Just in case you don’t know, Lopez is short of the WBC world title to be crowned the undisputed champion of the lightweight division and this world title currently belongs to Devin Haney
As you can see in the image below, Josh Taylor (current super-lightweight undisputed champion) blasted Lopez for claiming to be a undisputed champion on Twitter and whilst Teofimo is a talented unified champion, claiming to be undisputed is false and a bit cringe.
