It has been announced that the heavyweight clash between undefeated Trevor Bryan and Bermane Stiverne will be for the vacant WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title, as Manuel Charr is a ‘champion in recess’
It’s all very confusing and not very good for boxing’s overall image, as well as the reputation of the WBA. Manuel Charr won the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight world title in August 2017 but has not once defended the title since.
Then you have Bermane Stiverne who is on a 3 fight losing streak and hasn’t won any WBA ranking belt since 2011. Trevor Bryan is undefeated but lacks any creditable opponent on his record to be worthy of challenging for a world title, be it a regular or super title – confusing.
The boxing event is promoted by Don King.
